Last summer we popped over to the Strömfors Ironworks in Ruotsinpyhtää with friends by car. Even on the first visit, the place made an impression: small, idyllic, and peaceful – it seemed like a perfect destination for an overnight motorhome trip too. The thought lingered, and one summer weekend we decided to carry out the plan.
Strömfors is only about an hour's drive from Helsinki, and along the way you should definitely stop in charming Loviisa too. We packed the Benimar motorhome and filled the fridge with delicious provisions.

An atmospheric ironworks and the perfect wild camping spot
The Strömfors ironworks area has an atmospheric restaurant, and in the river you can swim, fish, and paddle. In summer, the restaurant hosts live music and other performances, creating a lively summer atmosphere.
We parked the Benimar at the Kiramo swimming beach parking lot – the place was empty and incredibly peaceful. The road ends right at the parking lot, so there's no through traffic at all. We got to enjoy complete peace and quiet in the middle of nature.
A day full of summer peace
Our day passed leisurely: we sat at the restaurant having coffee, swam in the river, and enjoyed the beautiful ironworks surroundings. At the beach there's also a swing attached to trees, perfect for memorable photos.
In the evening we cooked food in the van right by the riverbank. The trip also included a brief downpour, which brought a moment of lazy atmosphere – it was surprisingly relaxing to sit inside the warm van, watching the drops hit the river and listening to the pattering on the roof.
A peaceful night and a refreshing morning
The night passed completely undisturbed. In the morning we woke to a glimpse of sunshine and popped straight to the river for a refreshing morning swim. Rarely do you wake up this surrounded by nature, energized and ready for a new day.
Strömfors proved to be an excellent destination for an overnight trip. It offers just the right amount of activities, a peaceful atmosphere, and stunning scenery – the perfect combination for those traveling by motorhome.
