For our first trip in the Benimar motorhome, we set off soon after we had equipped the vehicle for living. For the maiden voyage, we wanted a destination close to Helsinki, so that the journey would be easy and stress-free – especially since our cats, Heinis and Viltsu, were coming along too.
Jessika found the destination using Google, searching for nice wild camping spots near the capital region. The choice fell on Köttboda beach in Porvoo, which was a perfect destination for a short getaway.
We packed the car ready for a brief adventure. The spacious interior of the Benimar allowed us to bring our pets without any problems. The cats' litter box fit neatly into the so-called "garage" at the back of the car, which the cats could access through a hatch under the bedroom bed. This way, the sand and smells stayed neatly separated from the living areas.
It became clear already during the drive that our cats were not quite used to a mobile home – the journey was accompanied by meowing. Fortunately, the destination was close. The last section of the road was narrow and in places quite poor after the spring rains, but the Benimar drove steadily, and handling the car was easy even in tight spots.
At the Destination
A real gem awaited us at the destination: we parked the car right by the sea, and we were the only people in the entire area. The parking spot was new, level, and spacious – a perfect stopover. We spent a sunny and peaceful day outdoors with the cats. We walked on the beach, admired the scenery, and enjoyed meals in the spring sunshine. Eating outdoors simply tastes better.
Benimar proved to be a spacious and functional travel home. Even though we hadn't received any user training at the time of purchase, we quickly learned the basic functions of the car. Viltsu adapted to the new environment surprisingly well, but Heinis was a little anxious about the change of location. The cats were particularly interested in observing the scenery and birds from the windows – a small show on offer all the time!
We had a comfortable night sleeping in the car, although the cats woke us up occasionally for their explorations. Overall, the first night in Benimar was successful.
Köttboda beach remained in our memory as an atmospheric and peaceful destination. Especially in summer, it would certainly be wonderful: the beach has barbecue spots, swimming opportunities, and stunning scenery. A strong recommendation for anyone looking for a peaceful wild camping spot by the sea – and why not for cat adventurers too.
